Assalamu Alaykum Lovelies.

Spring is here!!! woohoo!!!

I love Spring, It isn’t my favourite season but it’s close to it. Love how the Sun starts shining more and we get more hours to our day. I love a new beginning. I feel like Spring is the start of that. The Flowers return and Allah blesses us with their beauty. I wish I could start my gardening but because we just moved the backyard is not ready because they’re still doing construction outside on the houses across from us so the backyard is all mud 🙁 but as soon as that’s done I want to plant some tomatoes, cucumbers and green onions and obviously cilantro! When I moved into my first apartment with my youngest daughter I improvised since I didn’t have a backyard to garden in, I started growing Cilantro and Green onion on my balcony. Ya tu sabes 😉 There’s nothing better than fresh homegrown vegetables.

It’s time to get rid of all of the fall colour clothing and start bringing out those bright coloured Maxi dresses and cute sandals that I love. I’m honestly so excited to put all of our winter gear away. No more winter coats or snow pants or big clunky winter boots. Alhamdulillah.

One thing I’m super excited for this summer is to go to the cottage. As a kid my dad always used to take us to our cottage with all of our cousins and aunts and uncles we spent almost the whole summer up there. I used to love it up there. All the family together with all of my cousins and siblings. Masha’Allah it was great family memories. My dad made a homemade Zip Line for all of us kids we had this huge wooden climber that we used to climb up and then slide down from the Zip Line. That was one of my favourite things to do. We also had this teeter-totter that would swing round and round when you pumped the handle bars. I tried looking online to find the same one or something similar years ago for the kids but I couldn’t find anything like it. So if any of you wonderful readers ever come across something like that be sure to let me know! JZK in advance!

I’m very fortunate to have a few family members who own cottages. One day I’d love to buy a cottage and use that as my summer home. Insha’Allah.  Nothing better than getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city especially in the summer to relax out at the cottage. I strongly believe that kids thrive off of being in nature and outdoors. Exploring, learning, swimming in the lake doing all of the things they can’t do in a city.

Don’t get me wrong there are some great nature parks within the city that make you feel like you’re not even in it.

When I was a kid my best friend and I always used to ride our bikes to Warden Woods which is located at Warden and St Clair. It’s a walking and bike trail that leads to Teesedale apartments at Victoria Park and Danforth. My friend and I used to go down the huge hill at the start of the path way and go down to the water and cross the rocks to reach the other side. The other side of the stream are the woods. we would climb up the small mountain and make our way. It was absolutely gorgeous. The trees, the water we used to have this chill spot at the cliff of the mountain and we used to eat our lunches there. It was breathtaking. Just before the end of the woods there’s this huge bridge and we walk under it and there was this homemade swings made of rope and wood that we always used to play at. Our end goal was going to the Teesedale Apartments Convenience store to reward ourselves with some 10 cent sourced candies. They were soon yummy!

I think this year would be the perfect year to take my two daughters through the woods. They’re old enough now and able to climb up the hills and mountains and cross the stream by jumping from rock to rock. Last year I took them to the ravine located at Birchmount and St. Clair and ends at Warden and St Clair just across from warden station. I took the girls here to get a little taste of who confident they would be to cross rivers on stones and if they even like it. A test run if you may. The ravine is a lot smaller so I thought this would be the perfect way to start. The girls had such a blast and my eldest daughter was able to cross the river in a matter of seconds. She’s amazing masha’Allah!!!

What are some of your favourite things to do with your family as soon as the weather get’s nice?
